SECURITY

The Covid-19 pandemic has reshaped the functioning of societies and states around the world in ways few imagined to be possible. Security institutions and personnels have played a key role in mitigating the devastating human, economic, and security impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The  pandemic has revealed and exacerbated the inadequacies in security and justice systems. Most of them have existed since before, but in some cases the need for reforms became much more urgent than was realised.

Goals

  • Provide an overview of the application of security sector governance.

  • Relationship between health and security sector.

  • Discuss the role played by security institutions during the health crisis.

  • Discuss the circumstances under which the State allows other actors to get involved in the governance processes.

  • Roles played by non-state actors in mitigation of the pandemic.

  • The modes of interactions between different security providers.

  • How do we prepare for future health crises?
