Opening Ceremony: East Asia and the World

The Opening Ceremony of the Geneva Forum on East Asia will focus on the role that East Asia plays in global issues, shedding light on the links between East Asia and the rest of the world, and helping participants to get a first glimpse of the Forum's other activities. H. E Pimchanok Vonkorpon Pitfield, Ambassador & Permanent will deliver keynote speeches on the Forum's core themes. The Opening Ceremony will be structured as follows:

  • Fireside Chat
  • Closing Remarks and Outlook on the Forum

The opening ceremony is the flagship event of the Forum and sets the stage for all following events. It is intended to provide a macro-level overview of key topics in the international sphere related to East Asia as well as a first taste of the Forum's other events. The central theme of this event will be trade in East Asia and its connections with conflict and peace, and environmental sustainability.

Goals

 

  • To provide a macro-level overview of key topics in the international sphere related to East Asia;

  • To set the stage for the Forum (flagship event);

  • To link the Institute’s mission (multilateralism) with East Asia in general and East Asian geopolitics and economic standing in particular.
